From the Coast Guard Station to the Fire Island Inlet, anglers using chunks or live bait are taking bass to 24 pounds. Many of the Captree boats are also working the reefs and with good results – customers are taking porgies, sea bass and blackfish. The local wrecks and reefs are thick with porgies and sea bass, and most of the Freeport party boats are targeting the bottom for these two tasty morsels. Anglers using clam chum worked in 35 feet of water east of Jones Inlet and scored with stripers to 25 pounds. We also get word of good bass fishing near Jones Inlet on the South Shore. Those fishing out of Montauk traveled 35-40 miles to find large schools of bluefins in the 40-60 pound range.įrom the Stella Maris Bait and Tackle Shop in Sheepshead Bay we get word of stripers being trolled at the Breezy Jetty and that there is some great bluefish and albacore action at the Mud Buoy and 17 Fathoms. Windy conditions made for 10-12 foot seas at the canyons over the weekend, but there were a few trips to the Texas Tower and the Bacardi Wreck that produced both large school and medium sized bluefin tuna.
